RADICAL AGROECOLOGY DINNER & DISCUSSION

This is where it all began! A monthly political education space for land stewards. We have covered topics such as: agroecology and imperialism in SWANA (Southwest Asia / North Africa), campesino/fallahin movements in Chiapas and Palestine, political organizing tactics inspired by Brazilian MST, and more! We also just completed a 4-month long “Land Reform Winter School” — a Bay Area-centered adaptation of PLURI’s Land Reform Summer School.

AGROECOLOGY DELEGATIONS

We recently returned from Colombia for the International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD+20), where we brought a delegation of US-based agroecology leaders. We are excited to lead more international delegations in order to strenghthen our organizing and alliance building.

MACHETE DJ COLLECTIVE

If it’s not soulful, it’s not strategic! We know that central to any mass mobilization is culture! Our music, our art, our poetry… all of these creative outlets are central to our shared consciousness and social change. Machete DJ Collective seeks to bring our environmentalist and land steward community together through a diversity of events, using music to set us free, build our bonds, and bring us together. Bay Area Buyers Club

(A project in collaboration with Plurinational Land Reform in California Working Group + Oakland Neighborhood Assemblies)

Immigrant farmers are the backbone of the US food system, but face disproportionate hardship in securing their own land. Even when they are able to own their operations, small farmers are often forced to sell their product to profiteering middle men. Through the Land Reform Winter School, where Plurinational Land Reform in California Working Group introduced the idea of Buyers Clubs, participants at RADD have started the Bay Area Buyers Club, which sources directly from Coalicion De Pequenos Agricultores En California. This set of neighborhood-based direct buying entities, operating mainly out of Oakland Neighborhood Councils, buys in bulk from farmers individually — effectively eradicating the middle man for these purchases. The Land Reform Winter School was a 4-month long participatory process lead by a volunteer team of Bay Area-based educators, lawyers, students, activists, and community members. The school, a localized adaptation of PLURI’s Land Reform Summer School, consisted of monthly lectures, as well as reading groups (hosted by the Land Reform Collective), and field visits (hosted by various individuals and organizations). The goal of the school was to expose our RADD base to the terms “agrarian reform” and “land reform”, and to explore applications of these concepts to our contexts. These ideas haven’t been widely used North America, in spite of their relevance in the rest of the world.
